Many people think of dementia as an illness that occurs in the later stages of ageing. While less common, dementia can also be experienced by people under the age of 65 and is often referred to as ‘younger onset dementia’. In 2018 there is an estimated 26,500 people in Australia who are under the age of 65 and living with dementia. Some of these people may be in their 30’s, 40’s or 50’s.
